Up in the blue (and black and white)!?!
On our way back to Christchurch after the visit to Paul’s wonderful and generous parents, we got stuck in Tekapo, a small stop over which has grown to a hectic tourist place where you can get supplies wether you aim for skiing, fishing, climbing or just hiking along the loooong and winding tracks around Mt Cook.
We had the luck to get the three last beds in a backpacker place which was clean and nice with only 7 beds in the dorm:-)
Between 01:15 and 03:15 we gazed at the stars for the facile price of 95NZD pp but it was worth it. We learned how to identify the Southern Cross star constellation and how to find the south direction. We saw the Magellan clouds which turned out to be two galaxies far far away. We also got a glimpse of a star so old it almost is from creation of universe, 12,6 trillion years! Its was stunning!
In the morning we decided to go up in the sky by a Helicopter and feel the snow on Mt Cook. However it’s not very safe to land there so we took the little hill beside and got a good view over the two tops constituting Mt Cook! Thrilling mildly speaking in such a way we left my backpack in the chopper:-( However a nice person in the Flying company is bringing it to Christchurch tomorrow for us to pick up!
